Mini Seminar

On Friday, 8th February, 2013, the First Mini Seminar for the term was held at the Databank Board Room.
In attendance where 6 mentees, 4 Junior mentors and a senior mentor.
The topic discussed was Personal Hygiene and Good Grooming. The guest speaker for the mini seminar was Dr. Juliette Tuakli, the founder and medical director of CHILDAccra.
In discussing the topic, suggestions where raised about how to keep ones self neat and refreshed, by being sensitive to body odours and other hygienic issues. She also focused on the good grooming emphasizing that the non verbal communication say a lot about people more than the verbal communication. So as young adults, we should be  particular about what we communicate to others through our appearance and behaviours.
Followed, after the discussion of the personal hygiene and good grooming, was a 15 minutes assessment of the progress of the relationship between the mentees and the mentors. Interesting assessments where revealed which would be used in subsequent programmes to develop Africa's emerging leaders.

The mini seminar started at 3pm and ended at 5pm.

HOW TRUE IS IT?.......

It is said that ......“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experiences of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired and success achieved."  - Helen Keller

So the Question is "What do think about that"
(Please comment on the quote for an interesting discussion....)

YOUR ANNOYING PROBLEM........

The problem!
It is not known until made known
You know the problem but do not know
You do not know but want to know
Yet, you are refusing to know
It’s the problem
It has been defined but not discussed
But, how do you cope with your problem?
Do you swim with your problem?
Well, it’s easy swimming with it but difficult coping with it.
Moreover, Your problem sees you but you do not
Your problem feels comfortable in you but you do not
Your problem makes fun of you when you are bitterly lamenting about it
However, Don’t you think you would remember your problem when you forget it?
Don’t you  think you would injure yourself when you kick it?
Don’t you  think you are liable to accounting it again  when you cure it?
Don’t you think you would get tired when you write it down?
And also, don’t you think its ghost would hunt you when you kill it?
Well, what then do you do?
Come to think of it,
Don’t you think you would overcome the problem when you identify and solve it?
But how? And………… what then is the problem?
“The Problem” says the problem “is not yet known”.
Should you ask the Problem when it has told you the problem itself is not known?
“No!” a voice says.
“Then, whom should I ask?” you would say.
“Nobody!” says the voice.
“Friends, stop pretending for you know the problem, you just want to escape disgrace” says the Problem.
The Problem continues,
“Did I ask you to open that awful heart of your to me?
Don’t you know I’m also suffering?”
“I’m just enduring the pain because, I have nowhere to go”, cries the Problem.
“Somebody H-E-L-P!!!” you would shout.
Now when you decide to find a solution to this disturbing phenomenon, the Problem asks, “how?”
Then
When you see at once that you are ruined and could make nothing of the problem, you would think deeply to find a suitable and lasting solution to the problem with a well-developed problem-solving mind

your legacy

“If your actions create a legacy that inspires others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then, you are an excellent leader.” These are the words of Dolly Parton.

Our actions in life, both good and bad, influences those around us positively and negatively. What we do  then becomes a seed in someone's life which bears fruits and affects lives both near and far informing us that we are all leaders whether we like it or not. Some children have grown to be wonderful adults due to the actions of their parents and vice versa. So as public or private leaders we are tasked to influence people around us positively to make this world a better place to live in.

YOUR HEART BEAT...

What we happen to think about and do are influenced by what we feel about those things. The desire to succeed, to   be the best in every thing we do, to change the world one step at a time, all starts from the desires of the heart. The heart feels both the good and bad and brings about our reactions to these things. So....."you can't close your heart to the things you don't want to feel". Whether we like it or not, the feelings are ever present.
The best thing you can do for yourself is to be proactive to the things you can't close your heart from feeling.
Talk of leaders like Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa and Steve Jobs, just to mention a few, all felt things that influenced their decision and actions which have shaped our lives in this present world.
We all can mention names known, personally to us, that have influenced us positively but have not been publicly mentioned. Talk of fathers, mothers, uncles, friends and a whole lot of people, who were proactive to the things their heart felt and made tremendous impact to our life.
We as individuals should be therefore motivated to be open to the things that affect our heart and react to it by becoming a better person to ourselves and our community as a whole. That is one of the mark of a TRUE  LEADER.

HMMMMMM................................

Development and underdevelopment, Success and failure, Wealth and poverty, Happiness and sadness and all the wonderful and dreadful things that life has to offer have its root in CHARACTER. CHARACTER has its root in HABITS. HABITS has its roots in ACTIONS. ACTIONS gas its roots in THOUGHTS. So you
sow a THOUGHT, you reap an ACTION....
sow an ACTION, you reap a HABIT....
sow a HABIT, you reap a CHARACTER...
sow a CHARACTER, reap a DESTINY...on and on it goes
Joseph Le Conte said "the essential thing is not knowledge but character" and thoughts
What do you then think of yourself, your family, society and country?
What actions and character has be born out of those thoughts?
BEWARE OF YOUR THOUGHTS............
