YLMP mentee's feedback questionnaire

As you will already know, we had our last mini seminar for the current programme last Friday. Evaluation is an integral part of the mentoring process, and we have been trying to do that in many ways: the Appraisal Forms, the Assessment Sheets, etc. We developed a feedback questionnaire for mentees to fill out, I thought it would be nice for you to see a selection of their responses (good and bad). Here they are:

How has your behaviour and character changed since starting the programme?

“At first, I used to misbehave in class. I did not know my aim but now I have changed because of the programme.”

“I have learnt to be disciplined at all times. And how to be punctual.”

“It has helped in choosing my future career.”

“I used to think that I was not going to be able to do things the intelligent student could do but now my spirit is high and I have the courage and faith to do things. Through this programme I am doing very well in class.”

“I have really had a great experience as to knowing what I can do even as I am young. I also know that in everything I should think positively and I have changed for the good.”

‘Well to be honest I am someone who is quite shy and with a low spirit but with the help of this programme I have been able to overcome these challenges so I am no longer with a down spirit and no longer shy.”

“Friends say I behave like a matured or elderly person.”

How have your academic habits changed since starting the programme?

“My academic habits have changed a lot because since the programme started we had a lot of talk about how to use our time wisely. I have learnt how to schedule my time especially to learn and to save with the little money I have.”

“My academic performances has really changed a lot, at times I find things difficult but through this programme I believe in the can do spirit and I work towards it.”

“It has helped me to be serious in class.”

“It’s quite normal not all that extremely better but has improved from its previous state. Because during the programme we were taught how to learn and using those methods has moulded me to someone better.”

“My academic habits have improved, examples are elective maths and core maths. I am working hard and I am not giving up until I have gotten what I want.”

“I have been learning hard to improve on my academic performance and to pass my exams.”

“Yes, I was very weak in some subjects but through this I have been able to achieve my goals.”

How do you feel your values have changed since starting the programme?

“I always feel very happy and I know that one day my future will come out like the shooting star.”

“I will say at first I always think of material things (getting myself items e.g. clothes etc) but now I have learnt so many things about investment so I have started working on that.”

“I normally feel sad but since this programme I come to realise that starting very well at the beginning determines your success and that’s what keeps me going.”

“I now think positively and highly. Also I now make friends who would add value to my life and help me in times of difficulty and would prevent me from going astray.”

“Due to my matured [nature] my friends now respect me [more] than before.”

“My values have changed because I can now control my temper. Also, through the programme I am able to forgive people who sin against me.”

Have you experienced a change in any other area of your life as a result of the programme?

“Yes I have. Since we [have] been lectured about positive thinking has really helped me in life.”

“Yes, that is I am now able to manage my money and save to buy my personal needs which if I ask my parents wouldn’t buy.”

“Yes. I had no dream of motivating and inspiring people but now I have the dream.”

“As a result of the programme I am no longer shy and a person with doubts and discouragement as well as a person with less admiration of my self. I am now courageous, bold, highly admirable and a person with the ‘can-do’ spirit.”

“To be disciplined and focused in life.”

“I have become confident.”

“My style of leadership has changed.”

“I have learnt how to save money for my future, I have also learnt how to believe in myself no matter what.”

“Yes! I really don’t joke with my books. And whenever I read, I always make sure that I find something to motivate me to go near to my succession zone.”

Do you feel that you can maintain the objectives you have been working on? If yes, how? If no, why not?

“I can maintain my objectives that I have been working on through faith. Practice is another way, like the saying ‘practice makes man perfect’.”

“Yes because I know it’s for good. And I can cope with it.”

“Yes. Since I have mentors and good people around me and I also believe in myself I can keep my standards high.”

“Yes I think I can maintain the objectives I am working on first of all because with God all things are possible. And also I have targeted to become useful and better in future and before that can be established I must be determined and focused in life.”

“Yes because through the objectives my behaviour and performance has really changed and I don’t think I will stop working on it.”
“Yes. Because now it’s a part of me and I cannot do away with it since it is helping me to lead a good life as a leader should.”

Do you think that taking part in the Programme has been useful? Please explain.

“Yes. Because I thought it wasn’t a good programme and it will waste my time but since I got myself into it I have learnt a lot from it.”

“It has been useful to me because it has really made me know what is really going on in the outside world and also it has helped me socialise with other responsible people who know more than I do.”

“Yes because it has helped me realise so many capabilities.”

“Yes. Because of this programme I’ve learnt many things which have really changed my life a lot. I know how to face some challenges even if it is difficult.”

“Yes, because it has made me more confident as well as made me focus on what I want to be in future.”

“Yes. This programme has made me realise who I am.”

If you could change one thing about the Programme, what would it be?

“I was thinking we could engage in other activities which would be helpful to us but not only giving us talks whenever we meet, like maybe debates between mentees in all groups which would bring us awards etc.”

“The time duration, please!”

“I want us to have more or regular meetings in order to make us well educated about our lifestyle.”

“Absentees of our mentors and lateness of some representatives.”

“Nothing, because I think everything is good and I think it’s a wonderful programme.”

“It would be about my senior and junior mentors, they really need to change their attitude. They should really get time for we the mentees.”

“Well I don’t think there is anything bad about the programme, it was an exciting and beneficial and most of all motivational. But I also wish that next when the programme would be held there should be selection of responsible mentors and devoted ones as well.”

Would you have liked to spend more or less time with your mentors? Please give reasons.

“I would like to spend more time with my mentors because they give me advice whenever we meet and they are always sincere with us. They tell us their mind and I enjoy being with them.”

“Yes. Because they advise me and they also inspire me. I would like to be one of them.”

“Normal time with mentors.”

“Yes! I just love them. They always motivate me, especially on the positive side of my life.”

“Yes. To let them help me in things I don’t understand.”

“Yes I would like to spend more time with my mentors because I hardly see them, because when there is any programme they don’t come so our group is always left out due to their absence. We really need their attention, their advice.”

“I think we should spend less of our time with our mentors because of our studies, so it should be balanced.”

“Yes because I think if I spend much time with them, I will be able to know much about how things are going on in life after completing school and what life is about after they are able to complete.”

“Yes because when I have more time with them I learn a lot from them and they inspire me.”
